Android OS / Re: How to completely reset a tablet?
« on: April 24, 2018, 09:28:47 AM »
so if a ROM install via ODIN didn't fix the slowdown problem, then factory reset probably wouldn't do anything different except that I also lose my data? What I'm trying to erase/reset are those memory settings that you can tweak with certain rooted apps - it was a few years ago so I don't really recall exactly what I was tweaking. I think it was related to at what memory levels apps are killed but I'm not completely sure, I think there were 2 or 3 different settings tweakable related to this.
I'm not sure about the memory threshold thing, but the answer to your first sentence is yes, it doesn't do anything except data loss.

This is wrong. , a factory reset only wipes out the user data. Your system partition, and a few others, remain untouched. Cache and data will be wiped though.

Unfortunately, no. You need to have things in place before.

Samsung Galaxy / Re: S7 edge or S8
« on: April 24, 2018, 07:09:11 AM »
That depends on your definition I suppose. There is little change it will receive the latest greatest android. But you have to ask yourself if that is what you are looking for. If I didn't get the S8 I would've still been extremely happy with my S6.

apart from the lacking support for usb otg charging i've found the only real way around this is via wireless charging on select samsung models with removeable backplates like the s4 and devices with it built in. you can use the wireless charging and an otg cable on a few models and a few of the newer power banks support wireless charging so you can use usb on the go while on the go and charge at the same time.

I need help with my phone! / Re: Phone came into contact with a magnet

Also something else peculiar I noticed, with my portable battery, around 20k miliamp hours, there was only one 'bar' of charge missing at the end of the day, which at minimal use of my phone is typical, but today I had been using my battery all day because of my issue, so I would have expected a lot more to be gone, but it's the same as always.
yeah there a tools that track battery stats. i only know of the samsung offerings that display temp and power draw/battery charge level. something like https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=com.digibites.accubattery&hl=en likely works the same way though.

Let your carrier know so that the IMEI is registered on your provider's lost/stolen list.

I need help with my phone! / Re: GPS not working on HTC desire 816

https://www.gsmarena.com/htc_desire_816-6073.php gives me it does have GPS but as on all Androids you have to turn it on. I am encountering new and old users that didn't know this.

The age is old enough to see failures. Have the phone checked out at the usual service counter or guru buddy.

Im hoping you found a compatible phone by now but just incase anyone else needs this info...you can go buy any Tracphone , the Dollar stores and Walmart carries them and then all you need to do is call Safelink and transfer your safelink account to any Tracfone. Im a Safelink street team agent and thats what alot of my customers end up doing because its not really easy texting on these small Safe link phones!
