Someone with a T-Mobile bought Galaxy S8
« on: April 14, 2018, 12:46:27 AM »
A couple days someone asked if it's possible to block phone numbers matching a certain criteria. I've also been having a similar problem, where I'm receiving a lot of spam calls that always start with the first three digits of my number. I have a carrier-unlocked S8 and contacted Samsung about this. They told me it's not possible using the stock software, but might be possible from a T-Mobile (my network) bought S8.

Apparently, under phone>settings>block numbers there should be a "Match criteria" button and give options for numbers starting with, ending with, and including a certain criteria. I'm thinking of changing my phone's firmware, but would first like to confirm that this is possible. Thanks!

No such option for me. I have an unlocked S8 (G950U1) but flashed T mobile ROM to it

Darn, thanks anyways! I'm curious to know why did you switch ROMs?

I switched cause I got tired of waiting for Samsung to release oreo for the unlocked S8. Yes I do know that oreo is out now but I don't think I'm so switching back lol. The T Mobile bloatware isn't even that bad plus I feel like I have been getting better signal

Anyways
Works for me (T-Mo S8+, Oreo).

I put in the first 3 digits of my number, hit the "+" sign, and this is what it says.

Unfortunately, that only blocks that specific (3-digit) number. It doesn't block numbers starting with the first 3 digits.

Hmm, I see.. it was really late so I probably misunderstood the question. Apologies.

With no mention of budget I'll just say:

Budget - Motorola E

Mid-Budget - Motorola G

Mid-range/ Hi-End - Essential

Just wanted to add that you can do this with apps like Hiya. It's a free app (no Ads), it uses a global block list plus you can manually add whole numbers to it as well as block all numbers that start with specific digits. Just give it a try. If it won't work for you - there are similar apps like TrueCaller which can do the same and more. This way you don't need to flash any firmware and can keep your block lists even if you'll switch phones.
