Sony Xperia / Sony Z3 review!
« on: April 29, 2017, 10:54:19 PM »

The Z3's dimensions are actually the biggest change from the Z2, at least on the surface, as the phone is measures 5.75 x 2.83 x 0.29” (146 x 72 x 7.3 mm), making it slightly shorter, narrower, and much slimmer than the Z2.
Z3 is the most comfortable and premium Sony Xperia flagship so far.

The Z3 screen remains a 5.2" 1080x1920 pixels Triluminos display, but Sony is now touting its ability to hit 600 nits of peak brightness. We can confirm that this is indeed the case, and even measured it to hit peak 713 nits, which ensures great outdoor visibility, as the screen reflection coating does a good job, too. The minimum brightness is also excellent, at just 4 nits, allowing for comfortable reading in bed..

With barely a hint of lag throughout the interface, and plenty of RAM, the Z3 is well-equipped to meet its silicon challenges.

“Sony colors” no more, as the camera takes very natural-looking photos, while the software video stabilization rivals that of some OIS systems.

The Sony Xperia Z3 comes with front-facing stereo speakers, but don't hold your breath for HTC BoomSound-like volume and quality. Indeed, the tones coming out of the speakers are pretty decent and having some nice depth to them, but they aren't very powerful at all. It's always cool having a duo of front-facing speakers, but in this case, Sony should have worked a bit more on squeezing some loudness out of it, if it's at all possible with such thin waterproof speakers.

At first read, one might scoff at the seemingly modest Xperia Z3 upgrades against its Z2 predecessor. We are kind of liking Sony's approach, though, as it allows the company to stay on top of the bi-annual Android cycle of spring-fall flagships, while experimenting and improving with greater frequency. The Z3 has a thinner chassis, faster processor, brighter display and better photo and audio quality than the Z2, while keeping everything else great intact. These might not seem significant upgrades each on its own, but the cumulative effect is pretty powerful. The only gripe we have with the phone has to do with Sony's signature thick top and bottom bezels, which makes it largish for the screen size, yet we are willing to let those slide for the waterproof certification, and the front stereo speakers you are getting.

If you are coming from the Z1, the Z3 is a worthy upgrade, as it will upscale your Sony phone in all directions. For the Z2 owners, the situation is a tad murkier, as you might not want to shell out two Benjamins more for a tad slimmer handset with a bit better outdoor visibility, and a more balanced camera. Looking at the chief Z3 competitors, these boil down to the usual suspects. The plasticky Galaxy S5 offers a 5.1” 1080p display, whose colors are every bit as inaccurate as the Z3's out of the box, and a camera of similar quality, with waterproof chassis as well. The HTC One (M has a very premium build, and flaunts stereo speakers as well, but its Duo Camera is the weakest in the flagship pack. LG's G3 brags with a high-end QHD display and optically-stabilized camera in a chassis only a tad wider than the Z3, but its battery life is shorter than the rest. This competitor trio, however, sports one important advantage before Sony's newest Xperia – it is now about a hundred or more cheaper, and the category is pretty crowded for the new Z3 to dent a lasting impression there

Motorola Moto / Motorola KRZR K1 – Designed to excel
« on: April 29, 2017, 10:42:05 PM »
After successful launch of the RAZR group, Motorola has once again come up with the KRAZR K1 phone. This sleek and shimmering device comes with metallic finish and gives a strong feeling to the user. Additionally, the device is loaded with multimedia and entertainment functions, connectivity options and lots more. This Motorola device is otherwise also known as Motorola K1, Motorola KRZR or Motorola MOTOKRZR.

Another four - lettered bombshell from the house of Motorola, the Motorola KRZR K1 is a sensational device. The handset comes wrapped in good looks and places itself decently between the fashion phones and other serious devices.

The KRZR K1 comes with a narrower frame as compared to its predecessor, the RAZR. Its narrow frame has a hardened blue glass finish at the top, while the back borrows a matte feel of the PEBL. And at the bottom are perforated dimples, to give the phone a modern look. The device's magnesium and polished chrome composition adds to the solid and well built construction  - thus providing a good feel when held in hands, or placed against the ears. To accommodate the narrow frame, the Motorola KRZR K1 comes with narrow keypad and narrow internal display. But thankfully the trimming down did not spoil the user experience. With the 1.9-inch internal display, the device maintains the same brightness at 65,536 colours and 176x220-pixel resolution. Perhaps the only disappointment in the designing flaw is that the device is really prone to finger prints.

The Motorola KRZR K1 has bumped up the camera sensor to 2 Megapixels from the RAZR's 1.3 Megapixel shooter. And that's about it. For the camera comes sans photo light and auto focus. There is also no dedicated camera icon in the first-level menu grid. The user interface of the camera is kept simple. There is an indicator about remaining photo that can be taken, self timer, storage media, camera and video mode, self timer, zoom, and an animated D-pad to allow changes in settings for Colour Style, Lighting Conditions, 8x digital zoom, Exposure. Besides, there are options for editing. The video mode shoots clips with sound at 15fps.

For music, the device comes with a good music player. It can support popular music formats like MP3, AAC and AAC+ files. Multimedia A2DP profile is supported, so music on the phone can be streamed wirelessly to a stereo Bluetooth headset.

Other features of Motorola KRZR K1 are pretty straightforward. The device is a quad-band, and it offers the versatility of EDGE, USB, Bluetooth, GPRS and WAP. There are many messaging options like SMS, MMS and email; while its also features a comprehensive organizer list. Motorola KRZR K1 offers 20 MB of memory and 6 hours of talk time.

Motorola Moto / Ultra Smooth Slider Motorola Z3 Red

Motorola Z3 Red will delight you with the clean look. Motorola Z3 Red features an ultra smooth. Motorola Z3 Red has 115 g weight. Motorola Z3 Red display type is TFT, 256K colors

The Motorola Z3 Red features an ultra smooth slider that easily glides open with a subtle push to the elevated lens treatment. To take full advantage of the slider and make your life easier, you can do most anything in both the open and closed positions—no need to constantly ‘open’ the phone.

Network - GSM 850 / GSM 900 / GSM 1800 / GSM 1900

Announced - 2006, 3Q

Weight - 115 g

Display Type - TFT, 256K colors

Display Size - 176 x 220 pixels, 30 x 37 mm

When the phone is slid out, nothing more is revealed, well, the keypad of course, but the back is empty and the only thing you notice is the great construction and mechanisms as it slides out perfectly and without any effort and slides back in with a confirming snap sound which deserves compliments for the nice elaboration. No creak sounds and noises were performed by the phone during the whole testing period. One strange thing, we consider to be a defect fault of our testing sample, was that the left direction of the four-way button gives out a creaky sound.

Once opened, the Motorola Z3 Red will delight you with the clean look and feel to its large, easy-to-use keypad.  Paying attention to even the tiniest of details, the Motorola Z3 Red slides open to reveal an abstract tattoo for an element of pleasant surprise.

The mobile phone is rapidly becoming the important device -- the one device that seems to have it all and becomes even more indispensable than it is now. Mobile phones have already started functioning as more than just communications devices. Mobiles serve as watches and alarm clocks. Even with the limited free games that come with basic phones, they are already good for "time-pass". They can also function as calculators.

Crossing foreign territory, the Motorola Z3 Red quad-band technology allows users to roam seamlessly across countries and continents.  With multiple messaging capabilities including MMS and IM, share a picture, file or expression with friends, family or loved ones***.  Keeping in touch has never been more fun!  And with flight-mode, you can now relax with your favorite tunes for hoursFeature Articles, making the Motorola Z3 Red your ideal travel companion. Lumia / Windows Phone 8 - Tips & Tricks
« on: April 29, 2017, 10:38:09 PM »
Just joined the WP family and since there wasn’t a Tips&Tricks topic and having WP8 so many little details that really help our everyday, I decided to start this topic. Hope to learn a lot more to post here and also have the contribution of all DM members that also have joined WP.

Se here we go!

Easily change the phone to ring+vibrate to vibrate only and vice-versa

Volume => touch on top right

It also works while locked, just press unlock and without swyping, make the same procedure as above.

Take a screenshot

Unlock + Windows button

Browse contacts on a more faster way

While accessing your contacts, you have the letter for where each of your contact is started. Touch the letter to jump to another letter so you get fast positioned on the contact you are searching.

Use the Magnifier

By turning on the Magnifier on the settings (under "ease of access") you can double tap with 2 fingers and you will zoom in in any part of the WP OS. Double tap again with 2 fingers to return to normal view. Double tap with 2 fingers and hold to swype to control the zoom level.

Editing your text

Not always autocorrect makes the trick. For placing you on the right spot you want, touch and hold to bring up a cursor that will allow you to easily place you on the right place.

To avoid alternating always between the text keyboard and the numbers/symbol keyboard you can:

- Long press “.” for pick alternative punctuation mark.

- Press and hold the &123 and then drag to select a number or symbol. By releasing it, you return automatically to previous keyboard saving you some extra clicks.

By pressing and holding on the number/symbol keyboard, you can access special characters.

When you type a word that it isn’t on default dictionary, you have a +word option to add it so it will be recognized on future occasions.

Organizing groups

On the opposite of contacts, you can define the sort of contacts inside the groups by just touch+hold and move just like it was a tile

Translate and scan QR code without extra apps

Press the search hardware button and then click on the eye symbol to read automatically QR codes or select “scan text” to translate anything.

Quick Bing Search

While on IE10 (and if you have Bing as Search Engine by default on it), when you highlight something, you can quick search on Bing by just hitting the Search Hardware Button as it will make an immediate search on the selected text.

Quick Close IE10 and avoid the re-load of last webpage visited

Many don’t care on leaving apps open, some do. This is one is quite basic but if you want to close IE fast and avoid it to load the last webpage you visited next time you open it, before leaving IE, go to Tabs and close the ones you have open. Then, the back button will return to your homescreen and next time you will open a blank webpage. You can make this even faster if you customize the left button from the address bar to Tabs, instead of the default stop/refresh.

Rotate your phone to switch between simple and scientific calculator. Rotating left and right bring different scientific calculator options.

So it's all for now but I will be back if I find new things. Does anyone know other tricks for WP8?

Lumia / Nokia Lumia 710 For a Superb Multimedia Experience!
    « on: April 29, 2017, 10:31:41 PM »
Nokia has struck pay dirt by bringing out the Lumia series of smatphones. The Nokia Lumia 710 is a fine smartphone handset by any standards.

The Finnish mobile phone veteran is in recent months witnessing a reversal of fortunes. The launch of the Lumia series of smartphones has indeed made it possible for it to make the turn around. The UK mobile phone market, particularly has responded very positively to the Nokia Lumia 710 contract as well as the bigger cousin, the Nokia Lumia 800 for that matter.

You have one of the most functional and problem free smartphone handset when it comes to excessively brilliant multimedia phones. Besides the obvious charm of multimedia, the Lumia 710 has several other attributes that will most certainly make the potential buyer happy and nod in approval.

The Nokia Lumia 710 is a smartphone that is a shining example of the extremely positive outcome that has happened because of the association of Nokia with Microsoft. It is really surprising what big difference the presence of a more robust and vibrant operating platform can bring about in the fortunes of a falling company. Microsoft Windows Phone OS most certainly got the momentum going once again for Nokia. This version is also called the Mango.
Mango OS, powerful processor, fast web browsing you have it al here!

Besides the latest from Microsoft in the Microsoft Windows Phone version 7.0 of the operating system, you also have a powerful 1400 MHz Qualcomm MSM8255 (WCDMA) processor. This is a mighty enough combination of superlative software and hardware that any one in the mobile phone industry would love to provide in their respective handsets. LG G / LG G Pad 8.3 Google Play edition gets Android 4.4.4 update
    « on: April 29, 2017, 09:56:14 PM »
Google has been quiet about the Android 4.4.3 update to the LG G Pad 8.3 Google Play edition, and now it looks like both LG and Google are skipping that Android update in favor of jumping to the newer Android 4.4.4 revision. At this time, the update is hitting the Google Play edition as GPe devices usually are among the fastest to get the latest updates from Google.
The update will be staggered so it may not be hitting your devices just yet so you may have to wait a few days until it hits your unit. You do have to run at least Android 4.4.2 on your LG G Pad 8.3 GPe to be able to install the Android 4.4.4 update.
Both the Android 4.4.3 and Android 4.4.4 updates belong in the KitKat family and are considered incremental upgrades so you shouldn't notice any new features off the bat. Many of the changes will be under the hood in terms of bug fixes and performance improvements.

    LG G /  LG G5??? Galaxy S7???

    Galaxy S7 or LG G5
Which one is best for you? I’ll have to upgrade my aged lumia 820 this year. Personally, I see no point in considering appearance, but focus on duration and battery life. I am not so impressed by the LG G5 and Galaxy S7 has a bigger battery, but G5 is one of the last with removable batteries I can swap a spare battery off mpj like I did with my lumia 820. I am still confused which one should I buy lol.
